Everyone of us is busy with our daily schedule and our hectic stress-filled lives. Not many of us have the luxury of “tons of free time”. So what do you do to keep yourself sane?
You write a daily journal. I know a lot of people think keeping a journal/diary is overrated and angsty, but people recommended it to you when you were a kid because its just so damn useful.
Living in India, as an engineering student, life is pretty hectic. I’m always busy with assignments and studies, have to meet the expectations of tons of people and also feel homesick sometimes. All this leads to stress and keeping myself sane becomes an important thing to do.
Meditation. Meditation is a useful way to counter the effects of stress and bring about positivity in your life, but I lack the time and determination to meditate daily. I’ve found that keeping a journal is a far better thing to do, since I’m always short on time.
The picture above is the little book I use as my journal. It’s a cheap ripoff of the awesome Moleksine notebooks.
I have a habit of waking up early because I enjoy the peace and tranquil atmosphere and also because I find it the best time to write my journal.
Recounting your expressions and recording your emotions at the time can help you better recall the events later and laugh/reminisce about them. They also act as great blog post fodder; I sometimes use my journal notes when I’m blank.
Blogging and recording memories aside, keeping a journal also serves another useful function: it reduces your stress. When you share your problems with someone, the insecurity grestly reduces. Sharing the same with a journal feels more personal and has the same effect.
So no matter how busy or stressed you are, a journal is a must-have. Do you keep a journal? If so, what are your experiences with it? I’d like to know more. 🙂
